Pleasanton's Holiday Weekend: Friday in the Park, Saturday on Main

October 29, 2026

Pleasanton's two big downtown holiday events now happen in different places. The Pleasanton Downtown Association's Magical Holiday Evening falls on Friday, December 4, and a September notice from Hacienda lists it at Lions Wayside Park. The city's Hometown Holiday Parade and tree lighting stay on Main Street the next evening, Saturday, December 5.

Last year, the Friday event used Division Street, and Santa photos were taken at Museum on Main. That is the same building where the tree is lit after the parade. This year the two nights are spread across two downtown locations. The rest of the season fits around that weekend.

Friday Night Moves to the Park

The Hacienda notice from September 18, 2026, describes a bigger Friday event than last year's. It lists free photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, visits from Santa's elves, live holiday music, a hot chocolate bar, ornament decorating and face painting. It also lists a Christmas market of local vendors. The Pleasanton Weekly's 2025 holiday roundup described the 2025 version more simply: photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Museum on Main, plus family activities and live music on Division Street.

The market is the clearest addition. With a hot chocolate bar and a row of vendors, this sounds like an evening you can spend time at, more than a quick stop for a photo.

The event starts at 4 p.m. The closing time differs by source. The PDA's event page says 4 to 7 p.m., and the Hacienda notice says 4 to 8 p.m. If you're planning a late visit, check the PDA page closer to the date.

Saturday Stays on Main Street

The city has set the Hometown Holiday Celebration for the first Saturday of December, as usual. The parade steps off at 5 p.m. According to the Hacienda notice, it starts just before the Main Street Bridge, heads south and ends at Abbie Street. Expect floats, marching bands and community groups.

The tree lighting follows the parade in front of the Museum on Main. The city lists live music, a lighting by the Mayor and City Council, and a special appearance by Santa. The Hacienda notice names Mayor Jack Balch as host.

That means Santa has two downtown appearances on back-to-back nights. On Friday, the photos and the market have the park to themselves. On Saturday, the street belongs to the parade.

Saturday also has a few details residents may not know:

  • More businesses are paying for it. The Independent reported that last year was the first time the city looked for sponsors for the parade and tree lighting. For 2026, the city lists a $10,000 presenting sponsorship for the main stage and tree lighting, two $2,000 supporting-stage sponsorships, and a $500 community level.
  • Anyone can enter the parade. Entry fees run from $60 for PUSD and co-sponsored groups to $80 for Pleasanton residents entering privately and $100 for businesses and non-residents. Registration opened October 1.
  • The announcers come from the community. The city takes video auditions for parade announcers through the end of the day on November 8, 2026. Each one is a one-minute recording reading the city's script.

For parade questions, the city's events line is (925) 931-5352.

The Four Weeks Before

The weekend is the high point of the season, and the weeks before it are already filling up. Here is the November schedule in order:

  1. Saturday, November 7: Día de los Muertos. This is part of the city's free Cultural Celebration Series, held at the Pleasanton Senior Center from 1 to 3 p.m.
  2. Sunday, November 8: Veterans' Day Parade and Concert. The Pleasanton Community Concert Band lists this free event at the Veterans Memorial Building from 1:30 to 3 p.m. It's also the deadline for parade announcer auditions.
  3. Saturday, November 14: Native American Heritage Month. The second November event in the Cultural Celebration Series, at Alviso Adobe Community Park from 1 to 3 p.m.
  4. Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21: The Great Junk Hunt. The Alameda County Fairgrounds calls this a holiday-season market. Our earlier post on the Fairgrounds after the summer Fair covers more of the fall schedule there.
  5. Sunday, November 22: "A Song for You: The Music of Karen Carpenter at Christmas." At the Firehouse Arts Center from 2 to 4 p.m.
  6. Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27: Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Stoneridge Shopping Center is closed on Thanksgiving and open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Black Friday, according to Simon's posted holiday hours.
  7. Saturday, November 28: Small Business Saturday downtown. The PDA put it on its 2026 schedule, which the Pleasanton Weekly reported in February. The Bamville Card Show runs at the Fairgrounds the same weekend, November 28 and 29.

The next Friday is December 4, when the season moves to Lions Wayside Park.

The Following Weekend Keeps Downtown Busy

The holiday weekend sets up a second one. The Firehouse Arts Center has Mads Tolling's Cool Yule: A Nordic Holiday Celebration on Friday, December 11, at 7:30 p.m. The next afternoon brings The Golden Follies' "A Very Follies Holiday 2026" at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 12. Last year's Follies holiday show was on December 13.

That evening, the PDA brings back its Spirit & Sweater Stroll from 5 to 8 p.m., this year as a Onesie edition. That puts a matinee and an evening stroll on the same Saturday.

Across those two weekends, downtown has five evening or afternoon events in nine days, spread over at least three locations: Lions Wayside Park, the parade blocks of Main Street and the Firehouse. If you go to the Firehouse, you might also stop at the new spots covered in our post on what one corner of Main Street shows about downtown right now.

For last-minute errands later in the month, Stoneridge Shopping Center lists Christmas Eve hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed on Christmas Day.
